In order to answer these questions, we have analysed qualitative data collected during interviews with 171 head teachers of Polish schools. After exploring similarities and differences between the two groups of teachers I then support the argument that education in Cyprus appears to be divided according to the age of teachers. Teachers' opinions in all three milieux were found to concur—on the positive effects of: parental interest and involvement and parental dissatisfaction; partnership with parents; teacher-student relations; symbolic and material rewards; grades and marks; success in learning—and on the negative effects of some leisure pursuits and of potential post-school unemployment. There is variability and overlap between the job of teacher aide and teacher assistant. It takes less training to enter the nursing profession, although some registered nurses earn bachelor's or master's degrees.
